藉著單場三十九分的表現，展現爭奪年度最佳球員的決心，拓荒者隊主控里拉德在昨天的開幕戰中，與後場搭檔麥凱倫聯手率隊以一百一十三比一百○四逆轉爵士隊，拓荒者寫下聯盟最佳的主場開幕戰十六連勝。
上個賽季靠著兇猛的得分火力帶領拓荒者連續三年闖進季後賽，里拉德與麥凱倫在新球季首戰就展現絕佳手感、聯手拿下六十四分，里拉德拿三十九分，創下隊史開幕戰次高得分。
「全ＮＢＡ最長的連勝，我們當然希望能延續下去。」在幫助拓荒者隊寫下聯盟史上新高的主場開幕戰連勝紀錄後，里拉德說：「我以我們今晚能達成這項紀錄感到驕傲。」
里拉德上季在年度最佳球員票選中排名第八名，今年季前他多次表態將會把獲選當作球季目標之一，在昨天繳出全能成績單後，他也再度表示，「這是一個很好的開端。」
拓荒者與爵士昨天也寫下難得的紀錄，那就是兩隊全場合計三十八次罰球全數命中，同時也是聯盟近五十三年來的第三次，前一次達成此紀錄的為四年前的活塞與公鹿，該場比賽兩隊共計罰進四十一球。
